Russia critisizes the west for backing Libyan rebels
NBC News — Russia on monday sharply criticized the United States and other western countries for recognizing the Libyan rebels' National Transitional Council as a legitimate government. At a press conference monday in Moscow, Russia's Foreign Minister accused the west of taking sides in a civil war.
Since the outbreak of fighting, Russia has been in contact with both sides of the Libyan conflict. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced, along with other world leaders, the recognition of the rebels on friday. The major diplomatic step could unblock billions of dollars in frozen Libyan funds.
