NBC News — Russia friday called for the swift adoption of a new U.N. Security Council resolution on Syria. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the new resolution was needed in order to send additional U.N. observers to monitor a shaky ceasefire in the country. An advance team of observers is in Syria monitoring the shaky ten day old truce.
The security council must agree to a new proposal to send a larger force, which U.N. Chief Ban Ki-Moon hopes will be up to 300 strong. The violence continues in Syria despite the ceasefire in place and observers on the ground. The situation is so bad the U.N. chief has gone on record saying that Syria was not complying with the terms of the ceasefire.
