Python strangles 2 year-old, parents held accountable

Bushnell, FL (NBC) — A jury was selected Monday in the trial of a Florida couple charged with manslaughter, murder and child neglect after their pet python strangled a 2-year-old girl.
21 year-old Jaren Hare, the child's mother, and her 34 year-old boyfriend Charles Darnell could face lengthy prison terms if convicted.
In 2009 their eight-foot python got out of its cage and strangled 2 year-old Shaianna Hare in her crib.
The child was also bitten on her head and arms.
Wildlife officials took possession of the python and a boa constrictor that was also living in the home.
Opening statements in the trial get underway Tuesday morning.
