The leader of the Catholic Church came to Cuba asking for peace in the communist country.

Pope Benedict kicked off his three day tour of Cuba today in Santiago.

It's the first time a pope has visited Cuba in 14 years.

Cuban President Raul Castro warmly greeted the pope, assuring the pontiff cuba favors religious freedom and has good relations with religious institutions. About 10 percent of Cubans are Catholics.

Before the pontiff touched down, He shared unexpected and harsh criticisms of the Cuban Communist Government saying, "It is evident that Marxist ideology as it was conceived no longer responds to reality."
