Gresham, OR (KPTV) — A dispute over onions on a hamburger at McDonald's led to an arrest in Gresham.
Jayme John Leon is facing charges of disorderly conduct, harassment and criminal mischief for the Sept. 23 incident at a Gresham McDonald's restaurant.
Police said he ordered a Quarter Pounder with no onions at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday from the McDonald's drive-thru at 2231 N.E. 181st.
After driving away, he realized his burger had onions. Investigators said he called the restaurant and was told to return.
He did that, but he'd already eaten the burger. At that point, according to police, the workers didn't offer him a refund because he had eaten the hamburger.
Officers said Leon began screaming in the restaurant and threw a soda in the face on an employee. He's also accused of picking up a cash register and slamming it on the counter, as well as pushing over a display filled with cookies.
"I was appalled. It just seems like over the top," said Keri Harriman, a McDonald's customer who works nearby. "They're a McDonald's. They're busy, they get to going fast. Things happen."
An employee called 911. Police arrested Leon at his Gresham home. He was booked into jail and released.
Leon told FOX 12 the police report does not reflect the whole story of what happened inside the restaurant, but declined to comment further because of the pending charges.
Restaurant staff declined to comment.
