A man shot during a large fight outside of a nightclub was so intoxicated he didn't even realize he'd been hit by gunfire Sunday, police said.

Seattle Police Department officers responded to calls of shots fired around 2:30 a.m. at R Place Tavern in the 1500 block of Boylston Avenue.

According to police, a large brawl had started in response to a fist fight between four people. During the brawl, a friend of one of the fighters pulled out a gun and shot into the scene. But police said when officers arrived at R Place, they couldn't find anyone who was the victim of gunfire.

Police broke up the fight and arrested two suspects, one for reckless discharge of a firearm and another for misdemeanor assault.

The second suspect was heavily intoxicated, police said, and complained about pain in his back after being transported to the police station. It was then that officers discovered a gunshot wound in his back. The man was taken to Harbor Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The other suspect was booked into the King County Jail for felony assault.

The Seattle Police Department is investigating the incident.
