China's National Congress is in its second day, with new leaders for the Communist Party set to be named later this month. The once-in-a-decade congress will end on November 14th with the election of a new generation of party leadership. Chinese President Hu Jintao opened the congress with a speech where he acknowledged public anger over corruption.

Friday a rising star in the Communist Party said the party is moving towards requiring officials to declare their assets. Wang Yang is a candidate to join the new politburo standing committee. Claims that Wang will head a new drive to root out corruption has led some to believe real steps towards stamping out the problem may be on the way.
