New changes to Facebook marked by new partnerships

NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Facebook has made some noticeable chances on the social networking site. The company announced a major redesign for the profile pages of its billions of users today.
"Saturday Night Live"'s Andy Samberg unleashed his Mark Zuckerberg impression, “We’re gonna change the universe! We've expanded to the point where we've just stopped counting you guys."
And then, the real Facebook CEO came on stage in San Francisco to unleash "timeline,” which is an overhaul to the social network's profile pages.
"Timeline is the story of your life," Zuckerberg said.
The timeline feature organizes photos, videos and text into a sort of online personal history, organizing the events of one's life all the way back to birth.
"All the years of your life, right here," he said.
Zuckerberg also unveiled two new business partnerships; one, with the music service Spotify, allows users and their contacts to listen to music together - music they might want to buy.
"Social discovery on Facebook means we're bringing people back to paying for music," Daniel EK, CEO of Spotify, explained.
Facebook's other partnership is with Netflix. Now users can integrate their profiles to see what other contacts are watching on the service.
"It's an exciting time to be part of building all of these new social apps that are now possible," Zuckerberg declared.
The new apps are aimed at keeping Facebook users on the site longer, potentially generating more advertising dollars for the company. The moves are also meant to fend off the challenge from Google's new social networking site, Google+.
The Facebook announcement came at the company's "F8" conference in San Francisco for approximately two thousand journalists, entrepreneurs and developers.
