A British hiker found the dead bodies of six mountaineers in the French Alps on sunday. The hiker was walking near the summit of a mountain some 88 hundred feet tall. Officials say it looks like the climbers were killed in a rock and snow slide.

The bodies were found in a narrow ravine and were flown out to a nearby village for identification. The hikers, aged between 16 and 64 years old, were on a route regularly used by skiers in winter and climbers in summer. Officials believed they died on saturday.
