Mother of six looking to trade house for a vehicle

Detroit mother Lawanda Flake said she's willing to trade a house for a decent set of wheels.

The single mother of six said she gets up every day and gets her little ones ready to walk to the bus stop -- something she said she's sick of relying on because she doesn't have a car.

"They don't get to school on time because of the bus," Flake said. "There's times when they have to come back home because the bus just didn't show up."

The 36 year-old posted an ad on Craigslist looking for any takers on her offer of a home she owns in the Russell Woods neighborhood.

She bought the more than 2,000-square-foot home at a tax foreclosure sale last November for $3,500. But she says she can't afford to fix it up.

The home has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and an office.

Flake said she hates to see her the home go, but her family matters more. She is on disability and has a mentally handicapped child as well.

"I'm in desperate need of a car. It's not only for me, it's for my children," Flake said. The mother said being able to take her children to school and their medical appointments would change her life.
