NBC News — More Americans applied for jobless benefits last week, a sign the economy is still struggling to generate jobs. According to the Labor Department, unemployment benefit applications rose by 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 418,000.
The number of applications has remained above 400,000 for 15 straight weeks. Economists say applications should stay below 375,000 to signal a healthy job market and bring down the unemployment rate.
