To coin a phrase, you can count on these kids, especially when it comes to the future of Washington, Missouri. They raised 140,000 pennies for infrastructure. They did it to help connect kids in Franklin and Warren Counties.

"To have raised $1,400 dollars just in pennies but as you can see from the photograph to check out there that's a lot of pennies." said Washington, Missouri Mayor Sandy Lucy.

It's going to cost a pretty penny to make this big of a change in Washington. They're going to deep six this structure and build the new route 47 Missouri river bridge.

"Some of our schools in the district go across there the school. Buses do and we want the kids to get home safely." said coin collector Kaitlyn Patke.

For their persistance with pinching pennies, these children will get a plaque on the bridge thanking each school involved. By putting their heads together these kids can tell the tale of how they built a bridge to the future using some common sense.

Now they only need about 62-million more. Or say, 44,286 more barrels of pennies.
