Mass prisoner release by Myanmar government
NBC News — Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi called for the right of freedom for every individual in a speech wednesday. Suu Kyi's speech coincided with the country's Independence Day. The comments also come a day after a mass prisoner release by the government.
Political activists have expressed their disappointment over the release because so far none freed have been political prisoners. Activists claim the government clemency fell short of national reconciliation promises and showed that political prisoners may remain behind bars for a long time.
