A gunman armed with a rifle fired shots inside a Carson City, Nevada IHOP restaurant this morning.

Three people were killed, and 12 others wounded in the flurry of gunfire.

Witnesses say the gunman pulled up in a blue minivan and shot a man on a motorcycle before moving inside the restaurant. After firing shots in the IHOP, the gunman walked outside and began shooting into another restaurant and nearby office.

Two of the three people killed were national guardsmen in uniform.

Police say it’s too early to have answers as to why this happened. Officers have cordoned off the shooting scene, and extra security measures have been put in place on state and military buildings in northern Nevada.

"The community is safe. This was an isolated gunman,” said Chuck Allen with the Nevada State Police. “He did take his own life."

Authorities have not released the identity of the shooter, and an investigation is ongoing.
