Houston, Tx (CNN) — A teenager in Texas is fighting to wear what he wants to his senior prom. He wants to wear a dress, heels and a wig. The boy says his school won't let him.
The wardrobe belongs to him. Zamazal says he's been wearing the head to toe attire as often as he can.
"I actually wore my total ensemble to Miller Outdoor Theater," said Spring High School student Tony Zamazal. "I really didn't accept it in my own mind, that it was okay, until recently. It just became part of me."
Zamazal says he feels more comfortable dressing as a woman, and he was ready to make his big debut at prom.
"When I asked if that was in any way possible that I could, [the assistant principal] just told me no," said Zamazal. "He told me that it just wasn't in the dress code. Women wore dresses, and men wore tuxedos. They had a standard dress code...It was crushing."
But now he's ready to take a stand.
"If I do get to go as a woman, I will be ecstatic," said Zamazal. "It would be devastating because I put myself out there."
Zamazal says he doesn't care what others think about him as long as he gets to be himself.
A school district spokeswoman says the student can fight this but needs to start with his principal. She didn't know the school's dress code details.
