Landrieu to Commemorate Memorial Day by Visiting La. Military Bases, Families
WASHINGTON (NBC33) –U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., will commemorate Memorial Day and honor members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have lost their lives by visiting Navy, Army, National Guard and Air Force bases in Louisiana next week. Her visit is also part of the national Joining Forces campaign to support military families with quality housing, educational opportunities and a good standard of living.
Sen. Landrieu’s tour of Louisiana military installations include: Belle Chasse Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB), the Joint Readiness Training Center (Fort Polk), Camp Minden and Barksdale Air Force Base.
On Memorial Day, we pause to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to our country so that we may live in freedom. In the face of hardship and adversity, they courageously and bravely fought against injustice, oppression and tyranny,” Sen. Landrieu said. “Although we can never fully repay the debt we owe to the thousands who gave their lives, we can honor their memories by providing those men and women following in their footsteps with the best possible support. This Memorial Day we keep the families of those fighting overseas in our thoughts and pray for our troops’ safe return home.”
Since 2001, nearly 6,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines, including many brave Louisianians, have been killed in action during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
