NBC News — The semi-autonomous Kurdistan regional government in Iraq has deployed hundreds of its own soldiers to a disputed part of the country. The Kurdish troops are preventing Iraqi government troops from reaching a border crossing with Syria.
Soldiers from an Iraqi army brigade were ordered last week to a Kurdish-controlled border crossing in order to monitor the increasing violence over the border in Syria. But so far the Kurdish forces have denied them access. The Iraqi government is now working with Kurdish officials to end the standoff.
