THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: Amanda Knox and her boyfriend have been found innocent and were set free. They were found guilty of the charge of slander, which carries at 3 year sentence.

ORIGINAL STORY: A tearful Amanda Knox addressed the court Monday before her appeals trial went to the jury. Knox told jurors that she was paying for something that she didn't do.

Knox spoke after her co-defendant and former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito spoke to the court. Both were convicted of murdering British college student Meredith Kercher in 2009.

Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison; Sollecito to 25.

Friends and family back at Knox’s hometown of Seattle gathered at a hotel to watch the coverage live. They're hopeful her conviction will be over turned.

"Some fear, anticipation; stomach's in knots,” says Karen Pruett, a family friend. “I think like a lot of people we're just ready for it to be over with and hopefully it will be the resolution that Amanda's friends here in Seattle want."

The jury is deliberating now. We're told a verdict could come down as early as Monday afternoon in the U.S. or after 8pm in Italy.
