Kansas City, MO (KSHB) — Police are investigating allegations of child abuse at a Kansas City apartment after reports that a malnourished child was discovered being kept in a closet.

Just after 9:30 a.m., police conducted a welfare check on Highland Ave.

When the property manager let police into the apartment, they found a 10-year-old girl in the closet suffering from malnourishment. After seeing the child and the closet, it was obvious that she had been there for some time, according to authorities.

Police located the mother and mother's boyfriend, who are now in police custody. The mother has two other children, who are currently in protective custody.
