NBC News — Japan's Prime Minister is once again calling for the restart of the country's nuclear energy program. Following last year's nuclear disaster at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, Japanese officials took the entire country's nuclear power supply off-line. Speaking to reporters friday in Tokyo, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said restarting the country's nuclear reactors is quote, "vital for economic development."
Japan has 50 nuclear reactors which produced nearly 30% of the country's electricity. They were all taken off-line following last year's devastating tsunami and earthquake for safety checks. There's no word when they'll be put back on-line.
