Japanese nuclear disaster being investigated as a crime
NBC News — Japanese prosecutors are investigating the Fukushima nuclear disaster as a criminal act. Prosecutors are looking into the actions of the plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company or Tepco, and the government to see if they broke any laws leading up to and after the disaster.
Their investigation comes after an independent government report faulted Tepco for the way they operated the plant. The Fukushima plant suffered multiple meltdowns after it was hit by last year's devastating earthquake and tsunami. The plant has finally been shutdown but a mandatory evacuation zone remains in place around it due to high levels of radiation.
