Italian judges are expected to decide later monday whether the disgraced cruise ship captain of the Costa Concordia will remain under house arrest. Captain Francesco Schettino was put under house arrest on charges of manslaughter, shipwreck and abandoning his vessel.

A total of 17 bodies have been recovered since the accident, the Costa Concordia was carrying more than 4200 passengers and crew. Prosecutors want the captain to remain under home arrest saying if freed Schettino may tamper with evidence. The captain's lawyers argue that he poses no threat to the investigation and will not escape.
