NBC NEWS — An Italian bakery firm presented Pope Benedict with a giant Easter egg today, Wednesday, April 4.
The six-and-a-half foot tall 550-pound egg was adorned with the papal coat of arms. Pope Benedict received the egg before his weekly general audience.
The Pontiff dedicated this week's audience to his recent trip to Mexico and Cuba.
Pope Benedict told crowds in St. Peter's Square Cuba and the world needed change, which could only take place through reconciliation and brotherhood.
The Pontiff said he appreciated steps Cuban authorities had taken since his visit in reference to Havana's announcement that Good Friday would be a public holiday for the first time in decades.
Pope benedict also offered encouragement to people and organizations working to eliminate the use of landmines.
