NBC News — An Israeli airstrike killed a Hamas gunman and wounded two others thursday. The new deaths come after a three-week lull which followed a wave of violence in June that killed nine.

Hamas has largely observed a de facto ceasefire with Israel since 2009 but other groups continued to launch rocket attacks from the territory into bordering Israel. Earlier this week, an anti-aircraft missile was fired from the Gaza Strip at an Israeli community, damaging a building and vehicles.
