NBC News — The International Olympic Committee has formally stripped American cyclist Tyler Hamilton of his gold medal from the 2004 Athens Olympics, and reassigned the medals after his admission of doping. The IOC notified Hamilton friday that he had been disqualified from his victory in the road race time trial eight years ago.
His gold medal will now go to a Russian rider. American Bobby Julich will be moved up from bronze to silver, and a rider from Australia will be given the bronze. After years of denials, Hamilton admitted last year in a TV report that he had repeatedly used performance enhancing drugs.
