NBC NATIONAL NEWS — The man who inspired the mafia movie "Goodfellas" has died at the age of 69.
Henry Hill, a former mobster turned FBI informant, died Tuesday in Los Angeles after battling an undisclosed illness.
His girlfriend told TMZ that "his heart gave out."
Hill was known for his association with New York's notorious Lucchese crime family.
He earned his place in mafia history during the famous 1978 Lufthansa heist at Kennedy Airport, which netted a then record $5 million.
In later years, he opened a restaurant in New York called "Wiseguys" and started his own line of marinara sauce.
Hill said he never killed anyone and only turned FBI informant on the belief that he was about to be killed after he was busted for pushing drugs.
