A hot air balloon carrying tourists crashed near the Egyptian town of Luxor tuesday morning after exploding in mid air. Officials say 19 Asian and European tourists were killed in the crash. The dead were from Britain, France, Japan and Hong Kong.

One tourist and the pilot reportedly survived. The balloon exploded some 1000 feet in the air. Hot air ballooning at dawn is popular with tourists who go to Luxor to visit its temples and the tombs of the Valley of the Kings, including Tutankhamen's, also known as King Tut.
