Healthy snacking tips

Packing your kids lunch can be complicated when your running out the door in the morning. Reaching for those tried and true snack foods could mean your kids eat large amounts of calories they don't need.

That is why clinical dietitian, Lisa Cimperman, of University Hospitals Case Medical Center says you have to snack smart.

Start with snacks that have no more than 3 grams of fat per every 100 calories. Watch calories: a snack should be in the one to two hundred calories.

Lisa Cimperman said, "Teaching children that you can have treats every once in a while and in moderation will go a long way towards making them healthy adults."

Dietitians also suggest looking for 3 to 5 grams of fiber and less than 8 grams of sugar per serving on snack foods.
