Belfair, WA — Some late-night target practice set off a pre-4th of July fireworks show at an auto wrecking yard Sunday.
Two employees of Belfair Auto Wrecking were firing a rifle at a shipping container when they inadvertently ignited a large amount of fireworks stored inside, a Kitsap County Fire Department spokesperson said.
It is unknown if the two men knew the container was storing fireworks but the ensuing fire caused explosions and started smaller fires at multiple areas throughout the wrecking yard.
Fire crews were able to quickly get the fire under control but were still extinguishing hotspots Monday morning.
The Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has been called to the scene to inspect the fireworks and determine if they are safe and if any of them are illegal.
