NBC NEWS — Ceremonies to mark the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks are going forward, despite new threats officials are deeming "credible".
Officials say the threat comes from Pakistan.
Three men were allegedly sent to the U.S. as part of a plan to detonate car bombs in Washington, D.C. or New York.
Security forces are on high alert.
The public warning is part of the defense plan.
In Manhattan, Mayor Michael Bloomberg urged calm.
"There is always a threat there is not any reason why we should hunker down, lock ourselves in our houses and apartments and lose the freedoms that that the terrorists want us to give up," he said.
9/11 remembrances also went forward in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where passengers defeated the fourth Al Qaeda team in 2001.
More are planned for the weekend.
