Final space flight launches from Kennedy Space Center

Thursday, July 7, 2011 - 4:37pm

The countdown to goodbye is underway at Kennedy Space Center. The final shuttle launch could be less than 24 hours away.

If all goes as planned, and the weather cooperates, the shuttle Atlantis is scheduled to lift-off at 10:26 tomorrow morning.

It will be the end of an era, one filled with triumphs and tragedies for NASA.

Until commercial rockets are developed, American astronauts will be forced to rely on the Russian Space Agency for flights.
