NBC News — Small, affordable, three-wheel electric cars and scooters are gaining popularity in densely populated cities in China, especially in the capital Beijing. Owners currently do not need a license for these electric scooters because it isn't classified as a car in China. These vehicles are able to use the city's many bike lanes and avoid the infamous traffic jams.
The special scooters cost between $635 and $1400. The Chinese government is pushing the sales of electric vehicles, especially more traditional cars. It wants to have one million of them on the streets by 2015.
