NBC NATIONAL NEWS — On Monday, Helen Collins, 80, of Wisconsin was forced to land the small plane she was traveling in after her husband, the pilot, died while in the air.
Robert Vuksanovic, a pilot that came to the rescue, flew next to Helen and and guided her to safely land the plane.
The nerve-wracking moments were all caught on audio.
The last time Helen Collins took flying lessons was about 30 years ago.
Officials at Door County's Cherryland Airport were amazed at her calm and confidence the entire time.
But there was plenty of scary moments.
In the audio, Robert Vuksanovic said "I'm going to stay right here at this position all the way around the pattern until we come in to land, okay?
Still the landing was a success with Collins doing well after sustaining injuries to her spine and getting a cracked rib.
