NBC News — An anesthesiologist in Australia has pleaded guilty to infecting 55 women with Hepatitis C. Earlier the court heard 63 year old James Latham Peters was addicted to the drug Fentanyl. It was alleged that Peters would inject himself with the drug before using the same syringes on his patients at a Melbourne abortion clinic.
Prosecutors say he has known he was infected with Hepatitis C since 1996. Peters pleaded guilty friday to 55 counts of negligently causing serious injury. His victims have also launched a class action suit against him. Peters will be in court in February for a pre-sentencing hearing.
