NBC News — Boeing says its troubled 787 jets could be back in the air within weeks.
In January, the Dreamliner was grounded after lithium-ion batteries overheated on two separate planes.
The company says while it has not determined the exact cause of the problem, it has identified 80 potential issues that could lead to a battery fire and redesigned the system to eliminate any fire risk.
The new system has multiple layers of safeguards including measures to contain any problems if malfunction occurs.
Boeing's chief engineer says that while he's "confident" a fire would not occur, he could not rule out battery failures in the future.
