Willard, OH (WJW) — A man is accused of breaking into a neighbor's home in the middle of the night and trying to abduct a 12-year-old girl, along with having hundreds of images of child pornography on his computer.
The victim's step-mother said they had never seen Robert Streit, 32, of Willard, before the incident about 2 a.m. on Sept. 1.
Fox 8 News is only using the step-mother's first name, Angie, to protect the girl's identity.
"He had come, tried to touch one of the girls and everything, and tried to pick her up and tried to coach her out of the house," Angie said.
"He had rubbed his finder across her forehead and woke her up," she said.
"As she woke up she kept telling him, 'Hold on a minute, hold on a minute, just wait a minute, I have to get my shoes,' or whatever. At that time, he had went back into the dining room and then went back out the door, because apparently in his mind, I don't know what he was thinking, that maybe she was going to come out," Angie said.
Instead, she went to wake her family for help.
"She had gone into the bedroom, as to where my son was, got him up and had asked him, told him what was going on and that's when they physically came to the door and got us all up," Angie said.
The father chased the intruder down the street, but the he got away.
Police said they found Streit close by a few minutes later.
"We are glad he's caught but we just hope he is put away for a long time," Angie said.
A Huron County prosecutor said a few months before, police had seized Streit's computer after getting a tip he may have child pornography.
The prosecutor said they found about 1,700 images of child porn.
He also faces several felony charges for those as well.
Streit has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has a trial date set for November.
He is in jail with bond set at $100,000.
