It's all but official: Texas Governor Rick Perry is running for president.

Perry's spokesman says the governor will make his formal declaration this weekend.

The Republican is expected to visit the early primary states of South Carolina and New Hampshire this weekend. His announcement could come Saturday in Charleston, South Carolina.

Perry is the longest-serving governor in Texas history. The 61 year-old has been in office since George W. Bush made the jump from Austin to the White House in 2000.
