Akron, OH (WJW) — A convicted sex offender was arrested and charged with making death threats against President Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Brandon Britton, 51, of Akron, was in federal custody after an arrest warrant was issued by a federal judge in Akron on Monday.
Neighbors on Annadale Ave. were stunned when U.S. Secret Service agents showed up looking for Britton last week.
"They were like, 'have you seen him? Call us if you see him again,'" neighbor Andre Griffin said.
According to the nine-page federal complaint, Britton joined the online dating service Mega Mates earlier this year, but wanted to cancel his membership.
The complaint alleges Britton repeatedly called the website's customer service agents and threatened to do torturous and sexual things to their children if they did not cancel his membership.
Britton faces a third federal charge for those threats.
Britton was recorded as saying that he is "…anti-government and going to kill President Obama and Governor Romney," according to the complaint.
According to Summit County court records, in 2000, Britton was convicted of gross sexual imposition and sentenced to two years in prison.
The federal complaint alleges Britton told the customer service agent, "… when he got out of prison he was the worst nightmare of boys and girls in his neighborhood."
The complaint said that when agents searched Britton's home they found thousands of pages of drawings and writings, some of which were about "…torture, rape, child pornography, pedophilia, incest and snuff films," the complaint said.
Britton told agents he did not remember making the calls and has a history of getting mad and blacking out.
Each of the three charges has a maximum five-year prison sentence.
A federal judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation to determine if Britton is competent to stand trial.
