China proposes political solution for Syrian civil war
NBC News — China has a new four-point plan for a political solution to the crisis in Syria. It includes a phase-by-phase and region-by-region ceasefire and the establishment of a transitional governing body. The plan was put forward by China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi during a meeting wednesday with United Nations and Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi.
A foreign ministry spokesman told journalists thursday the proposals included a call for the international community to act with greater urgency and increase humanitarian aid to Syria. China and Russia have vetoed three U.N. resolutions condemning President Bashar Assad's government for the violence. However, China has urged the Syrian government to negotiate with the opposition and meet demands for political change.
