Fishers, IN (WXIN) — A Noblesville mother was arrested after police say she left her 4-year-old son inside a hot car at a Fishers shopping center.
Roni Penn, 34, faces a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent.
Dispatchers received a call Monday afternoon about a child inside a car at the Super Target near 116th Street and Interstate 69. Fishers police and fire personnel were sent to the area.
Shortly after arriving, officers found Penn, who told them she went inside the store to run an errand. She added that her son didn't want to go inside so she left him in the car, according to police. Penn said she left the boy alone for about 30 minutes.
According to police, the 4 year old was hot and sweaty, but didn't need any further medical attention after an examination by Fishers Fire Department Paramedics. Officers said the temperature inside the car was 100 degrees after the vehicle was ventilated.
Penn was arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail. The child was released to his father.
