NATIONAL NEWS (CNN) — A man and his girlfriend are suing a Chicago police officer for alleged brutality.
Luis Cordero, Jr., and Heather Rzany are claiming Officer Chris Gofron violently attacked them outside the pavilion apartments on the Northwest Side.
They say it happened on June 26, 2010. Gofron was off-duty at the time of the alleged beating.
Cordero claims Gofron hit him several times in the head with a gun, while Rzany says he grabbed her neck and stuck a gun in her face.
Gofron is on active duty in the Englewood District as the Independent Police Review Authority investigates.
The lawsuit also accuses Chicago Police Officer Jason Burg of allowing Gofron to leave the scene without arresting him and allegedly failing to record his name and badge number.
Calls to the Independent Police Review Authority have not been returned. Chicago police and the city law department say they can't comment.
The investigation is ongoing.
