Carnival cruise ship still adrift

A cruise ship remains adrift at sea off Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula after a fire onboard sunday left it without propulsion. The fire in the engine room happened while the Carnival Triumph was about 150 miles off the coast of Mexico. Emergency generator power is now operating the ship. The cruise line said that none of the roughly 3000 people on board were hurt.

At first, two tugboats were expected to haul the ship to the Mexican port of Progreso on the Yucatan Peninsula. But in the past 24 hours, the ship has drifted northeast closer to Mobile, which is now where the boat will be pulled. Carnival says the crew and passengers will arrive in Mobile sometime on thursday. This is little consolation to the passengers, who through social media, have talked about the lack of air-conditioning in 90 degree temperatures and only a few operational toilets.

The ship set sail from Galveston, Texas on thursday and was supposed to arrive back on monday. Carnival said all the passengers would receive a refund.
