Thirteeen people in Texas have now died following a Sunday evening crash where a truck ran off Highway 59 in Goliad County and hit a tree.

According to state troopers, the truck blew a tire before veering off the road. 22 people were inside the vehicle.

At least 11 people were air-lifted to several different hospitals including a Corpus Christi hospital. Many have critical injuries, and one died after being taken to the hospital.

Troopers say that five or six people were in the cab and the rest were in the bed of the truck.

Many of the passengers were thrown from the truck - one was found about 50 or 60 feet away. The “jaws of life” had to be used to get some people out of the cab.

Men, women and children were in truck when it crashed. Immigration agents were looking into the human smuggling aspect of the case.

Officials say citizens of Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras were among the dead, and at least two young children were among the dead.
