CNN — Bryan Singer had a hand in "X-Men: First Class," but the filmmaker's now reportedly stepping into a larger role for its sequel.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Singer will indeed be the guy to fill the director's chair now that Matthew Vaughn has stepped down from the job.
It was reported last week that "First Class" helmer Vaughn was moving away from directing the sequel for unknown reasons, although it's suspected that he'll still serve as a producer.
Singer, meanwhile, is also a producer on "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and previously served in the same role on "X-Men: First Class," picking up a story credit with its script. Fans, of course, best know him as the director of 2000's "X-Men" and 2003's "X2."
"X-Men: First Class" actors Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy are all expected to return for "Days of Future Past," which is scheduled to begin production early next year. The film is slated to arrive in theaters July 18, 2014.
