Two parents are facing charges after a concerned guest and a clerk discovered a 9-month-old baby left alone in a motel room in Clarksville Saturday night.

Police charged Robert and Brittany Calles with child abuse and neglect after they returned to the motel on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

According to investigators, a guest had seen the parents leave the motel without the child. The guest became concerned and call the front desk.

The clerk and the guest checked the room and found the baby wrapped in a blanket on the bottom right corner of the bed, police said. The room was left in disarray with empty food cups, trash and soiled diapers.

The clerk and guest kept the child safe until police arrived a few minutes later, officers said.

The mother and father of the baby arrived at the motel about 30 minutes later, according to police.

When officers talked to the parents individually, they varied in their explanations of why and how long the child had been left alone.
