ALICE, TEXAS (NBC) — A 24-year-old U.S. Army veteran is locked up in Texas for allegedly fatally stabbing his common-law wife and her two sons early this morning.
NBC News reports that Felix Chapa of Alice, Texas, is being held in Jim Wells County jail on three counts of capital murder. That’s because they say that at around 3:00 a.m. they found the bodies of Michelle Hughes, 41, Ivan Hughes, 20, and William Hughes, 15, dead in or near their home.
The youngest victim was disabled and was found inside the home, and his mother, Michelle, was found lying on the sidewalk not far from her home. The eldest son, Ivan, was found a couple of houses down from the crime scene.
Chapa was identified as a Michelle Hughes common-law husband. He was arrested at his home without incident.
We’re told Chapa is a U.S. Army veteran who returned from an overseas deployment within the past year. The victim is the niece of a man who was stabbed to death and decapitated in 2008.
