NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Months of anticipation have finally ended for fans of Apple's iPhone.
The company unveiled its latest incarnation Tuesday afternoon.
It's an update, not an overhaul.
A faster dual core processor will, among other things, enhance graphics for gaming.
The camera's gotten an upgrade to 8 megapixels and 1080hd video, and its new mobile IOS5 operating system will allow wireless syncing with content.
Also new to the iPhone is a voice activated personal assistant application called "Siri".
It responds to spoken questions and commands.
"It's definitely the most ambitious version of this we've seen in a consumer device. At the same time, it may be a little too out there for most people to use, especially if they're just happy clicking on stuff with their fingers," says CNET.com's Dan Ackerman.
New Apple CEO Tim Cook led the announcement, which included word of the iPhone's availability on Sprint.
The iPhone4S will be available beginning October 14.
The company also unveiled new versions of its iPod Nano with a multi-touch display and updated versions of its iPod Touch.
