Apple's dispute over the I-pad trademark deepened monday after the Chinese company that claims ownership of the name said it won a court ruling against sales of the popular tablet computer in China. A lawyer for the company said a court in southern China ruled on friday that distributors should stop selling I-pads in China. The ruling, however may not have a far-reaching effect.

In its battle with Apple, the Chinese company claiming the trademark is filing lawsuits in several places and is also requesting officials in 40 cities to block I-pad sales. Apple said in a statement on monday that its case was still pending in China. So far, I-pads have been pulled from shelves in some Chinese cities but there has been no sign of action at the national level.
