A man shouting "down with communism" was taken away by security during an event with Pope Benedict in Cuba yesterday, Monday, March 26.

The pope celebrated an open-air mass in Santiago's revolution square after his arrival on the communist island.

A camera caught a man shouting "down with communism."

He was detained and taken away from the event.

A Vatican spokesperson called the incident a protest and said it was over before Pope Benedict started celebrating mass.

Just days before his arrival, the pontiff said communism no longer works in Cuba, but was less direct in criticizing the island's government after he arrived.
