National Day of Prayer observed at the State Capitol
Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Today is the 60th annual National Day of Prayer, which is being observed throughout the nation.
The Louisiana National Day of Prayer program was held at noon at the State Capitol.
Governor Bobby Jindal was supposed to be a part of the ceremony but he was holding that press conference on the river levels; therefore, several senators and representatives spoke along with other dignitaries and community leaders.
Prayers were given for all levels of government, the military, and media.
In 1952, President Truman signed the resolution creating the National Day of Prayer, and in 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of May.
